Only natural stone and porcelain can be used in outdoor applications. Quartz and other fabricated materials cannot withstand the sun.

What type of natural stone can be used in outdoor countertops?

Are there some natural stone countertops not recommended for outdoor use?

Some natural stone countertops are not appropriate for outdoor use. Some may have large, resin-filled voids or veins or large amounts of iron oxide which could rust. See this list from Arizona Tile for more details.

Are there other stone countertop materials that can be used on a covered patio than full sun countertops?

If the countertops won’t be exposed to direct sunlight, a wider variety of materials are available to use as they can be used in covered outdoor patios that have protection from direct sunlight. See a full list from Arizona Tile.

What cleaning and maintenance is required on outdoor countertops?

Full-sun countertop applications of Limestone, Marble and Travertine may need a deep cleaning annually to revive their original natural color. These stones may darken due to exposure to the elements in full sun.

What are the best materials for an outdoor fire pit?

Soapstone is a great material to use on and around a fire pit because it will hold up to extreme changes in temperature and not crack.
